CLASS EXPECTATIONS:

 Materials needed every day:

Text: Mathematics

5-subject spiral notebook

Pencil and eraser

Red pen

Calculator

Completed Homework

Homework

Homework is an integral part of your Math experience. It reviews the lessons of the day or reviews concepts previously taught.

A written assignment will be given most nights. This assignment should be done in your Math notebook. The assignment must be headed with the date, page number(s), and exercise numbers. Your work should always be neatly done. All computation must be shown. If you do not show your computation, you will be required to redo the assignment.

Extra credit assignments will not be given. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to make up the work in a timely fashion. Points will be deducted on late assignments. Homework and warm ups will be listed daily on my website, http://www.shgteach.org/reese/.  Three incomplete or neglected homework assignments will result in a detention.

Assessment

Tests are given at the end of each chapter or unit of study. They are announced. If you are absent on the day of a test, it is your responsibility to arrange to take the test at another time. Make up tests are generally not given during class time.

Quizzes are more frequent and based directly on assigned homework, previous class work, or previous homework.

Math warm ups are generally given each day. You are expected to complete them during class time. If for some reason you do not finish during class, you should complete your problems on your own that day during study hall or for homework. Warm ups will be collected on Fridays. You have the entire week to be reviewing your work….please utilize that time to double check and make any corrections needed.

Weekly Progress Reports

At the beginning of each week you will receive a weekly progress sheet. This is to be stapled into the last section of your 5-subject notebook. During the week you will keep track of your homework progress and record any points received. At the end of the week I will then check your sheet and give you an overall evaluation. You must then take your notebook home at the end of the day and have mom and/or dad sign it. I will check for a signature on Monday. Not getting your progress sheet signed for Monday constitutes a missed assignment.

Math Clinic

Math clinic will be held during Math class on the third Friday of the month. During this time you will be allowed to redo any work except chapter tests, projects, and warm ups.   Be sure to review your work before redoing it. Work must be redone by the date that is stamped on your paper. It is your responsibility to keep all returned papers in the file folder I will provide for you. That file folder is to be kept in the Math bin in the room at all times. If you have any questions or concerns about the redo work, you must see me BEFORE the day of redos.  I will be happy to meet with you at another time to help.

Grades

Grades will be determined by a point system in the following areas: tests, quizzes, warm ups, graded assignments, homework, and projects.

Last But Not Least

I encourage each of you to do the very best you can at all times and I will do the very best I can at all times to teach and help you. Please do not ever hesitate to ask questions during the class or to ask for help afterwards. I’m looking forward to working with you and am confident we are going to have a great year!
