Welcome to Music!
The Sacred Heart School music program consists of general classroom music for all students in grades K-8. Our emphasis is on vocal and instrumental music using the Kodaly, Orff-Schulwerk and Dalcroze methods of teaching music. The students learn how to sing songs, play xylophones and other percussion instruments, read music, and analyze musical excerpts ranging from Bach to rock! The over-arching theme of my classroom is that MUSIC IS FUN!! Through the use of games, movement, dance, listening, instrumental and vocal performance the students here are given a very hands-on chance to see what it is that music is all about.

Let the Choir Sing!
Over the past several years the interest in the Sacred Heart school choir has grown so much that we have had to break into two separate choirs. The Intermediate Choir meets on Tuesday afternoons from 3:00 to 4:30. Any and all students in the fourth and fifth grades at Sacred Heart are welcome to join the Intermediate Choir. During these rehearsals, the students not only learn how to sing specific songs for concerts, they also learn to follow along in a choral score, the basics of note reading, and a more advanced degree of interpreting musical selections than they may get in the classroom. The Middle School Chorus, which caters to all students in the sixth, seventh and eighth grades, meets on Wednesday afternoon. Because most of the Middle School Chorus members have been in the Intermediate Choir previously, we are able to tackle more difficult, and more interesting, music.
As this website is further developed, choir students can check back frequently to find audio files of the songs we will be performing in upcoming concerts. Simply click on "Musical Examples" under the Documents in the menu to the left and find your part, or a recording of all the parts together. Thank you!
